Camp Manager
Ages: 25+
At the heart of every camper’s experience is the dedicated team that supports their wellbeing, comfort, and happiness. The Camp Manager plays a vital leadership role in ensuring the smooth and safe running of our residential camps in the beautiful Swiss Alps. We are looking for a confident, friendly, fun, and easy-going individual with a genuine interest in working with children and young people. You must be an experienced manager, a natural communicator, and a reliable problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, demanding environment. If you’re someone who brings out the best in others, we want to hear from you.
Location: The role is predominantly based at our main camp in Les Crosets, a stunning but remote mountain village in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery, Les Crosets offers the perfect environment for us to operate our camp, but has minimal local facilities in the summer. We also run camps in alternative locations, so you may be required to relocate for short periods to deliver your role elsewhere throughout the season.
Key Duties:
1. Communication & Camper Support
- Act as a senior point of contact for camper wellbeing issues, liaising with parents, school staff, and Camp Suisse management.
- Support the Pastoral Care Team with any concerns around medical needs, homesickness, bullying, language barriers, or behaviour.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with children, staff, and adults from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
- Attend and contribute to daily senior management meetings, as well as regular team check-ins with staff under your supervision.
- Escalate complex issues promptly while ensuring reporting procedures (e.g. via Monday.com) are followed.
- Maintain a calm, positive, and reassuring presence when resolving sensitive issues involving campers or staff.
2. Leadership & Operational Oversight
- Manage the Pastoral Care, Cleaning, and Maintenance Teams to ensure effective delivery of their daily duties and responsibilities.
- Oversee the smooth and safe running of all residential accommodation, including cleaning, housekeeping, maintenance, and fire safety procedures.
- Support the planning and delivery of morning routines, evening entertainments, and other elements of the programme.
- Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and conduct training as needed to uphold standards of safety, cleanliness, and camper care.
- Assist with camper arrivals and departures, ensuring accommodation is prepared and routines run efficiently.
- Act as a senior problem-solver across camp, addressing grievances or operational issues involving staff, parents, or campers as needed.
3. Participation & Teamwork
- Be an active and supportive member of the senior management team, contributing to the smooth day-to-day operation of camp.
- Support and motivate seasonal staff by promoting a positive team culture and high standards of professionalism and care.
- Lead regular meetings with your team and work closely with other departments (directors, activities, catering) to coordinate logistics and camper support.
- Help out with shared tasks such as changeover days, emergency cover, or additional duties that may arise due to the dynamic nature of seasonal camp life.
- Lead by example with a hands-on, can-do attitude, encouraging flexibility, accountability, and collaboration throughout your teams.
- Fully participate in staff induction and ongoing training.
- Be a supportive and positive member of the team, ready to help colleagues and contribute to a friendly, inclusive environment.
Personal requirements / characteristics:
To succeed in this role, you will need to be a confident, approachable, and highly organised individual with strong leadership experience in a relevant setting such as camp management, hotel or resort operations, or another residential leadership environment. You should have a genuine passion for working with children and young people, with the ability to build positive, respectful relationships while maintaining professional boundaries. A proven ability to manage and motivate staff is essential, as is a flexible, hands-on attitude and a calm, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving. Excellent communication skills are required to liaise effectively with children, staff, parents, and external partners from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. A full driving licence is essential, and French language skills are highly desirable. Experience in pastoral care, staff training, and day-to-day operational management is vital, along with a sound understanding of the demands of seasonal work. First aid training or a medical background would be a strong advantage. This is a senior staff role with flexible hours and high responsibility, requiring commitment, resilience, and the ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. In return, you’ll be part of a supportive leadership team, helping to create a safe, fun, and rewarding Alpine experience for both campers and staff.
