We are proud to provide a wide range of tasty, nutritious food to cater for every individual child’s dietary requirements. The kitchen team endeavours to use fresh, local produce wherever possible to produce meals that leave campers feeling healthy, happy and satisfied.
Our buffet-style breakfasts consist of a range of cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit platters, eggs, toast, preserves and fruit juices.
Lunches are either served in-house or taken as a packed lunch when out on an excursion. A typical Camp Suisse packed lunch comprises a choice of freshly baked filled rolls, pasta or rice salad, a muesli or cake bar, fresh fruit and, for that little bit of indulgence, a chocolate bar. Our bread is handmade daily by Jean-Jean, the local baker in his tradition artisanal bakery!
At every dinner we provide at least two meal options, along with accompaniments and a salad bar to ensure optimum variety and choice. The week’s menu is displayed on the wall so that campers can discuss in advance with their group leaders if they are likely to prefer an alternative meal on any given day. Drawing on a range of world cuisines, it is our aim to encourage children to try new foods from countries other than their own, as well as providing some tried-and-tested favourites! We are always happy to provide, even at short notice, a selection of very simple meals for the fussy eaters amongst us and these meals would include plain grilled chicken, pizzas, sandwiches, pasta with or without sauce etc.
Take a look at the sample menus below to see what your child can look forward to eating here at Camp Suisse.
We value the social aspects of collective dining and campers are required to sit around the dining table in their groups at each in-house meal and food is table-served, encouraging sharing, conversation and good table manners.
We understand that for those with special dietary requirements, spending time away from home can be a cause for concern for both child and parents alike. Fortunately, we specialise in catering for a range of dietary requirements including:
If you indicate that your child has specialist dietary requirements, he or she will have a meeting with the catering team and their group leader on arrival at camp to discuss dietary needs in more detail and establish a personalised food plan. Your child will be made fully aware of what he or she can expect to eat at each meal time as well as being told which foods he or she should avoid. The degree of tailoring of the standard menu will match your child’s needs.
We supplement our normal stock with a range of specialist products such as lactose-free milk, gluten-free pasta, nut-free snacks and many more items sourced from both Switzerland and the UK. In doing so, we aim to ensure that your child can eat food that is as closely matched as possible to that which is eaten by other children at the camp so that he or she feels fully included in camp life. To support this further, if you would like to inform us of any specialist products that your child usually eats, we will endeavour to provide these. You are, of course, welcome to send your child to camp with any such products and we will be more than happy to incorporate them into the menu.
Our kitchen staff receive training in how to cater for those with specialist dietary requirements and you can therefore rest assured that your child will receive the highest quality of food and service at all times. We are proud to have accommodated youngsters who have previously been unable to participate in residential trips due to the severity of their food allergies. The catering team also offer training and support to the other departments at camp concerning the treatment of food allergies and intolerances to ensure that awareness levels across all staff teams are as high as possible. All staff have a collective responsibility for food safety management.
If you would like more information about how we can accommodate your child’s dietary requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us.
