Summer

Group Leader

Ages: 19+

The Group Leader is at the heart of every camper’s experience at Camp Suisse, whether during our school camps or our international summer camps. We’re looking for enthusiastic, fun, and hardworking individuals with a genuine desire to give each camper an unforgettable summer in the stunning Swiss Alps. As a Group Leader, you will bring a specialism to your role; either outdoor education (for both school and international camps) or languages (French, Spanish, English, or German, for the international camp only). Your role is to lead, inspire, and care for your campers, delivering safe, professional, and engaging activities while ensuring their well-being, safety, and enjoyment throughout their stay.

Location: The role is predominantly based at our main camp in Les Crosets, a stunning but remote mountain village in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery, Les Crosets offers the perfect environment for us to operate our camp, but has minimal local facilities in the summer. We also run camps in alternative locations, so you may be required to relocate for short periods to deliver your role elsewhere throughout the season.

Key Duties

1. Communication & Camper Support

  • Act as the main point of contact for your campers, answering questions, providing reassurance, and escalating concerns where necessary (“if in doubt, check it out”).
  • Attend daily morning and evening staff meetings with the Middle Management Team (MMT – Group Leader Manager, Program Manager, and Colour Group Supervisors) to review plans, give feedback, and discuss camper progress.
  • Provide clear daily briefings to your campers so they’re prepared for each activity, excursion, and event.
  • Communicate promptly with management regarding any concerns about camper safety, health, happiness, or the safety of an activity.
  • Serve as a point of contact for parents and teachers regarding any camper in your care.
  • Complete weekly self-appraisals of your performance and contribution to camp life.
  • Offer feedback on the success and popularity of the activities and the campers’ enjoyment of different events.

2. Group Leadership & Activity Delivery

You’ll be responsible for a group of campers (6–12 depending on age) for the duration of their stay, mentoring, leading, and supporting them through every aspect of camp life. This includes:

  • Leading your group with enthusiasm during meals, activities, and excursions.
  • Delivering safe, professional, and great fun adventure, sport, and activity sessions in line with Camp Suisse plans and operational procedures.
  • Delivering the Camp Suisse Ed-Venture Award to school groups.
  • Leading excursions outside camp, ensuring safety, engagement, and enjoyment.
  • Teaching progressive and engaging language lessons or outdoor education sessions (including bush craft, survival skills, and navigation) depending on your specialism.
  • Designing and running ad hoc activity sessions tailored to age, ability, weather, and group needs, sometimes at short notice.
  • Using effective group management techniques (e.g., buddy systems) to remain fully accountable for your campers at all times.
  • Accurately reporting daily on each camper’s well-being and safety using company systems (e.g., Monday.com).

3. Participation & Teamwork

  • Fully participate in pre-camp online training, on site staff induction and ongoing training.
  • Support and take part in special camp events such as arrivals, departures, Olympics, and Prom.
  • Assist with and support other activity sessions as required.
  • Take responsibility for the proper use and return of all equipment.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness of camp and its surroundings.
  • Be an active, supportive, and positive member of the team, ready to help others and contribute to a friendly, inclusive atmosphere.

Personal requirements / characteristics:

It is vital you have a genuine passion for working with children and young adults. The ability to build a good rapport with campers is important. With such an amazing opportunity to work in the outdoors you should be excited by the prospect of a summer in the alps. With the outstanding range of activities on offer this will not be hard. The work is both extremely good fun and very rewarding. This is a very demanding role and therefore it is helpful if you thrive in a busy environment and enjoy the unique team environment a seasonal job offers. Above all you should be a team player who is kind, caring, and great fun! You should have an open mind and be tolerant of all cultures, races and languages. It is helpful if you have experience working with children, first aid training, coaching or teaching qualifications or experience, and are keen on sports and the outdoors.

Remuneration:

• Accommodation

• Three meals per day

• Entrance / admissions / equipment relating to all activities in which you participate

• Competitive salary

• Full in-house training

• Accident insurance
