French-speaking Group Leaders
Ages: 19+
The Group Leader is at the heart of every camper’s experience at Camp Suisse, whether during our school camps or our international summer camps. We’re looking for enthusiastic, fun, and hardworking individuals with a genuine desire to give each camper an unforgettable summer in the stunning Swiss Alps. This unique and rewarding role also includes delivering French language lessons, so fluency in French and relevant teaching experience are essential. You’ll be responsible for a small group of campers, supporting them through every aspect of camp life, from exciting outdoor adventures to meal times and language learning. If you’re fun, energetic, fluent in French, and passionate about working with young people, this could be the perfect Alpine opportunity for you.
Location: The role is predominantly based at our main camp in Les Crosets, a stunning but remote mountain village in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery, Les Crosets offers the perfect environment for us to operate our camp, but has minimal local facilities in the summer. We also run camps in alternative locations, so you may be required to relocate for short periods to deliver your role elsewhere throughout the season.
Key Duties:
1. Communication & Camper Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact and mentor for a small group of campers (typically 6–12, depending on age).
- Build rapport with each camper, offering reassurance, encouragement, and guidance throughout their stay.
- Relay camp information clearly and effectively in French, both during group briefings and informal communication.
- Monitor and report on camper wellbeing, safety, and engagement, raising any concerns to senior staff.
- Be a friendly, approachable presence to help campers settle in and enjoy their experience.
2. Group Leadership & Language Teaching
- Deliver engaging and age-appropriate French language lessons to your group (and others as needed).
- Support your campers throughout the full daily programme, including meals, excursions, and activities.
- Motivate and encourage participation in all camp offerings, ensuring each camper gets the most from their time.
- Offer constructive feedback on camper enjoyment, participation, and the success of activities.
- Be responsible for the health, safety, and general welfare of campers in your care.
- Assist with other activities or support sessions as required.
3. Participation & Teamwork
- Work closely with fellow group leaders, instructors, and management to deliver a cohesive camper experience.
- Be actively involved in the daily running of camp life including wake-ups, meal supervision, and evening programmes.
- Help out during other sessions when needed, including during changeover days, excursions, or entertainment events.
- Embody the Camp Suisse team spirit, be approachable, dependable, positive, and ready to support wherever needed.
- Fully participate in staff induction and ongoing training.
- Be a supportive and positive member of the team, ready to help colleagues and contribute to a friendly, inclusive environment.
Personal requirements / characteristics:
We are looking for fluent French speakers with a passion for working with children and young people. You should have relevant teaching experience, preferably in French language instruction, along with a strong ability to lead and mentor young people in a residential setting. Experience working with children (in education, camps, or youth settings) is essential. You must be confident, organised, and enthusiastic – able to build relationships quickly, communicate clearly, and respond sensitively to camper needs. A genuine interest in languages, education, outdoor activities, and cultural exchange is key. First aid training is a bonus, and it helps if you’re sporty, outdoorsy, and enjoy being part of a team. This is a demanding, full-time role with long hours (from breakfast through to evening), so stamina, resilience, and a positive mindset are crucial. In return, you’ll be part of a supportive team delivering a truly life-changing experience for young people in the stunning Swiss Alps.
- Remuneration:
- Accommodation for the duration of your contract
- Three meals per day
- Entrance / admissions / equipment relating to all activities in which you participate
- Competitive salary
- Full in-house training
