Catering Assistants / Kitchen Porters

Camp Suisse is looking for friendly, well-motivated individuals who enjoy working in a professional kitchen environment. As a Catering Assistant / Kitchen Porter, you’ll play an essential role in supporting the daily operations of a busy camp kitchen, ensuring cleanliness, efficiency, and a high standard of food service.
With a variety of responsibilities and a fast-paced environment, this role is perfect for individuals who are organised, proactive, and enjoy being part of a hardworking and friendly team. You will assist the kitchen team in delivering fresh, nutritious meals and keeping the kitchen running smoothly for both campers and staff.
Location: The role is predominantly based at our main camp in Les Crosets, a stunning but remote mountain village in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery, Les Crosets offers the perfect environment for us to operate our camp, but has minimal local facilities in the summer. We also run camps in alternative locations, so you may be required to relocate for short periods to deliver your role elsewhere throughout the season.
Key Duties:
1. Communication
- Work closely with Head Chefs and the Catering Manager, following instructions and reporting any issues or concerns.
- Maintain clear, professional communication within the kitchen team during busy service periods.
- Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff and other departments when needed.
2. Kitchen Support, Food Preparation and Cleanliness
- Assist with food prep tasks including chopping vegetables, preparing sandwiches and paninis, and assembling packed lunches.
- Operate industrial dishwashers and perform manual washing of kitchenware, pots, and pans.
- Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen, pot wash, and food prep area at all times.
- Support chefs during meal services with plating, ingredient preparation, or restocking stations.
- Follow all food safety and hygiene procedures in accordance with HACCP guidelines.
3. Participation & Teamwork
- Follow instructions from Head Chefs and the Catering Manager to support overall kitchen operations.
- Assist with serving meals to campers and guests during service periods.
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene protocols at all times.
- Take responsibility for the proper use and return of all equipment.
- Help maintain the cleanliness of camp and its surroundings.
- Be an active, supportive, and positive member of the team, ready to help others and contribute to a friendly, inclusive atmosphere.
Personal requirements/ Characteristics:
We are seeking individuals who are reliable, hardworking, and keen to contribute to a busy catering team. You must be interested in catering and food preparation. Previous experience as a kitchen porter or in a catering environment is helpful, as is a basic knowledge of HACCP and food hygiene practices. You should be physically fit, comfortable working on your feet, and capable of handling busy service times. A good sense of initiative, the ability to follow instructions, and a cheerful, flexible attitude are key to success in this role. You’ll report to the Head Chefs and Catering Manager and should be ready to support your teammates wherever needed.
