Summer

Activity Instructor

Ages: 20+

Activity Instructors are responsible for the delivery of the wide variety of activities we offer our schools and campers. Camp Suisse Activity Instructors are talented and adaptable individuals with a genuine passion for their activities. You must be mature, punctual, professional and responsible with a real enthusiasm for the outdoors and for coaching and teaching children and young people.

Location: The role is predominantly based at our main camp in Les Crosets, a stunning but remote mountain village in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery, Les Crosets offers the perfect environment for us to operate our camp, but has minimal local facilities in the summer. We also run camps in alternative locations, so you may be required to relocate for short periods to deliver your role elsewhere throughout the season.

Key Duties:

1. Communication & Camper Support

  • Act as the main point of contact for your campers, answering questions, providing reassurance, and escalating concerns where necessary (“if in doubt, check it out”).
  • Attend daily morning and evening staff meetings with the Middle Management Team (MMT – Group Leader Manager, Program Manager, and Colour Group Supervisors) to review plans, give feedback, and discuss camper progress.
  • Provide clear daily briefings to your campers so they’re prepared for each activity, excursion, and event.
  • Communicate promptly with management regarding any concerns about camper safety, health, happiness, or the safety of an activity.
  • Serve as a point of contact for parents and teachers regarding any camper in your care.
  • Complete weekly self-appraisals of your performance and contribution to camp life.
  • Offer feedback on the success and popularity of the activities and the campers’ enjoyment of different events.

2. Group Leadership & Activity Delivery

  • Deliver professional, effective and great fun adventure activities to campers
  • Deliver the Camp Suisse Ed-Venture Award along side a team of staff to our school groups
  • Design and plan activity sessions to suit specific requirements (age, ability, weather, aims)
  • Coach activities in line with Camp Suisse session plans to ensure full participation by campers
  • Be responsible for the use, maintenance and inspection of all equipment to the prescribed standards
  • Be an effective member of the activities team, willing to support others and develop the personal skills that will allow you to deliver the broad range of activities in our program
  • Follow all reporting procedures
  • Be responsible for the health, safety and welfare of our campers for the duration of their stay
  • Driving duties as required
  • Be involved in other areas of the camp including evening entertainment, night time supervision and domestic duties as required.

3. Participation & Teamwork

  • Fully participate in pre-camp online training, on site staff induction and ongoing training.
  • Support and take part in special camp events such as arrivals, departures, Olympics, and Prom.
  • Assist with and support other activity sessions as required.
  • Take responsibility for the proper use and return of all equipment.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness of camp and its surroundings.
  • Be an active, supportive, and positive member of the team, ready to help others and contribute to a friendly, inclusive atmosphere.

Points to note:

The essential element of all Camp Suisse activity sessions is to improve skills and confidence in each discipline; development and learning is essential. All sessions are to be structured, planned and progressive to suit the needs of each group. Activities are delivered in a safe, controlled environment in a manner which is great fun for participants and which creates real enthusiasm for the exercise. Each activity runs in line with the relevant Camp Suisse activity session plan. International Camp Suisse proudly holds AdventureMark Accreditation. To this end, in-house training and assessment will be delivered to ensure all Activity Instructors can operate at the approved standards. International Camp Suisse operates in an Alpine environment and as such is subject to rapid changes in weather, therefore Activity Instructors must be suitably prepared to lead in this environment.

Personal requirements / characteristics:
