Green & Yellow Groups: Olympic Museum

14th July 2021

Today the Greens and Yellows made the journey to Lausanne, ‘The Capital of the Olympics’. The campers got to visit the International Olympic Museum which was very exciting! There was so much interesting exhibits from the origins of the ancient Greek Olympics to the importance of Sports Manga (Japanese comics). There was also plenty of interactive games to test our sports skills and many ways to see how Olympic athletes push themselves to the maximum of human ability. Of course it was Ana’s birthday yesterday and celebrations were had all together in the local restaurant, Caprins. All in all, a fun and educational day was had by all the campers!

Green & Yellow Groups: Art Jamming, Climbing, and Chocolate! 🧗‍♂️🍫🎨

13th July 2021

On a misty and cold morning in Torgon, the Yellow Group awoke to a morning full of colour and creativity whilst art jamming. After lunch, with three elective activities to chose from, the Yellow group campers were racing up the climbing wall, breaking a sweat playing football and tuning into their inner Picasso making decorations for the highly anticipated prom night.

Meanwhile, the Greens group set off on an epicurean adventure to the Cailler Chocolate Factory and later to the town of Gruyères for some cheese. Aurel, Alex and particularly enjoyed the chocolate factory whilst Pietro, Yiannos and Themistocles indulged in fondue.

The campers really made the most of the winter temperatures today!

Green & Yellow Groups: Languages and Ultimate Survivor!

12th July 2021

The day started off a little calm after the excitement of last night’s big match! Despite the few tired eyes this morning, it was another fantastic day at Camp Suisse! The Greens and Yellows started off with language lessons; it was the final rehearsal before the big karaoke tomorrow night! The French class is ready to sing ‘Ramnez la coupe à la maison’ and ‘Dans le jungle’ of Lion King. The English classes are prepared with Shakira and Shawn Mendez.

After a hotdog and salad lunch, the Greens and Yellows headed off to the woods for Ultimate Survivor; one of our newly developed activity sessions that teaches the campers to overcome physical, mental and team challenges, all wrapped up in our realistic immersive scenarios.

The campers discovered their survival scenario, planned their survival strategy, and learnt survival essentials: they lit a fire from the sticks they found in the forest, then built fantastic shelters to protect themselves from the elements, and finally they filtered and purified water and took part in a first aid activity.
All in all a great day!

Green Group Move Mountains while the Yellow Group visit the Chocolate Factory and Gruyères

11th July 2021

This morning the Green group worked on their team building skills, as they headed into the Torgon forest for ‘Moving Mountains’. A brand new activity for this year, campers have to work together to overcome games and challenges, all whilst using their orienteering skills to find their way across the forest. All teams worked hard to avoid the penalty for not completing a task – a blindfold! At the end of the morning, the campers met on the football pitch for a race on the Giant Skis to conclude a great morning of challenges. In the afternoon they designed some sculptures before working on their calligraphy skills in Art Jamming.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Group enjoyed one of the most popular Camp Suisse excursions – the Cailler Chocolate Factory! As part of their language tuition course, they took part in a language quiz about the history of the Cailler brand, before getting to taste the goods in the sample room. The afternoon activity took them to the ancient town of Gruyères, with its imposing stone walls and medieval castle. A great afternoon of exploring and cheese tasting was had by all.

Green & Yellow Groups: Camp Suisse Olympics

10th July 2021

Today the campers got to experience the epic challenges and triumphs of the Camp Suisse Olympics! Each team were assigned a country and each embraced their nationality for the games with creativity. They made chants, a painted poster and wore the flags of their respective teams.

The Games included a water obstacle course in which Claire and Marie really shined. Mexico and Greece took places on the podium. Celia, Pastora and Matteo were some of the many campers who were rewarded for their efforts with prizes.

The ceremony ended like it started with the lighting of the torch and the chanting of the songs the teams created. Ghana sung their song beautifully with Zora and Jasmine taking the lead.

Green & Yellow Groups: A day of Adventure, Art and Archery!

9th July 2021

The senior campers started this morning with language classes. The Spanish and English classes enjoyed an educational walk, while the French class learnt all about different forms of transport and played an awesome drawing game based on ‘Among Us’, where they had to root out the imposter artist amongst them!! They also had their final rehearsal for the great karaoke performance, taking place next week: we have Lion King, Shakira and Stromae on the agenda, which they are really looking forward to performing to their peers!

After a delicious panini lunch, we set out for the afternoon activities. The Yellow group learnt all about shelter building in the forest, which was super fun! They also took part in Camp Suisse ‘Art Jamming’ where they recreated some local artwork.

The Greens, meanwhile, enjoyed an afternoon of archery. Our archers played an awesome ‘predict the future’ game where the arrows accounted for the different destinations and types of travel. For example 3 arrows in the bulls eye meant a 5* holiday in Australia while an arrow on the outer ring meant staying in a cardboard box in Antarctica!

Green & Yellow Groups make a splash at the AquaParc!

8th July 2021

The Greens and Yellows had an amazing day out at the highly acclaimed Aqua Parc today! The Aqua Parc is an indoor waterpark, so despite the less than ideal weather outside, campers were lounging in lovely 30 degree heat inside. With 15 amazing slides was something for every level. The more adventurous campers timed themselves going down the Devil’s Run slide with the fastest time going to Nella, who managed to complete the 20m high slide in 4.3 seconds! We also had the intrepid Salvador and Hector brave the Booster Loop, an amazing experience that drops you four floors through a loop-de-loop and has a maximum speed of 80km/h! The Lazy River was also a camper favourite and Zorah particularly enjoyed navigating the rapid parts. All in all a great day was had by all and it was great to see all of the campers having such a fun time!

Yellow Group: Moving Mountains!

7th July 2021

Today the yellow group did a series of thrilling team building exercises in an adventure into the forest, in a challenge called ‘Moving Mountains’.

The yellows were spilt into five teams and each embarked on a series of activities that tested their communication and motivational skills. They raced around the forest with flurry and excitement believing each would win, orienteering themselves with a map to each activity. They encouraged each other as the activities tested physical skills and trust, they lifted each other through the spider web. They persevered through the ‘Detonation Challenge’ where they had to be completely in sync to detonate the bomb.

To the final round of high tensions, with smiles on their faces each team had to move in unison on wooden planks to the finish line. Every team was successful at multiple events and the feeling of pride and camaraderie was palpable all day. Tonight will be Casino Night and anticipation can be felt throughout Camp!

Yellow Group: Rock Climbing & Montreux Jazz

6th July 2021

What an amazing day that the Yellow Group had today! The day started off with a 2-hour climbing session in Villeneuve, where many campers overcame their fear of climbing and scaled the 15-meter wall.

Some of them were at first reluctant to participate, however after light encouragement from the Group Leaders, they went on to scale the wall! Climbing is such an inclusive sport that everyone can participate in, so it was amazing to see every single child getting harnessed up today.

Next, the campers hopped on the coach to Montreux, where they enjoyed the world-renowned Montreux Jazz Festival. The atmosphere there was electric and they had plenty of free time to explore the lakeside town, with supervision from our experienced group leaders of course! They ventured into the shops, stalls, the local shopping centre and took in the scenic views of the gorgeous Lake Geneva. Many campers bought food, crepes and souvenirs at the festival and an amazing day was had by all!

Green & Yellow Groups – Language Learning and Mountain Adventure

5th July 2021

The campers were greeted with a beautiful, bright and sunny morning here in Torgon as they made their way from the chalets to the centre for breakfast at 8:00 am. It was noticeable that the campers have been coming out of their shells at mealtimes; talking amongst themselves in the language that is understood by all at the table; being overall helpful to one another and taking on the role as team members. After breakfast, they displayed more skills of independence and responsibility at their morning meeting with their Group Leaders and when packing their backpacks with all the necessary materials for the exciting day ahead!

The first activity of the day were the language lessons from 9:00 am – 12:15 pm. In these classes, to which each student has been carefully allocated by our teachers based on language level, they were given the opportunity to mingle with new faces and cultures in the lesson’s target language. In the advanced English class, Pablo was off to a flying start, winning the round robin of naming the greatest number of countries in the class. Elena brought many wonderful song suggestions to the class for the Karaoke performance, which will take place later in the Session. Overall, our language teachers were thrilled by the campers’ enthusiasm and interest in the different tasks.

The afternoon was filled with activities such as fire building, ultimate frisbee, shelter building and team building games. The campers enjoyed the very best of the day’s weather at the football pitch, followed by the wonderful atmosphere in the woods. It seems there is no better way to spend the day than being at one with the beautiful nature that surrounds us here in Switzerland.
