Green & Yellow Groups: Ultimate Survivor!

The Greens and Yellows were on their way to the Camp Suisse centre, when suddenly disaster struck! In a stunning turn of catastrophic events, their pilot, disorientated by low hanging cloud, overshot their landing area and careened into the forest – thankfully, THEY SURVIVED!
Each team worked together in order to complete tasks for their survival. The first problem they faced was that of shelter- each team made a stable structure that was capable of withstanding wind and rain, utilising sticks and moss. Each team were dehydrated so they had to filter water using plastic bottles, rocks, moss and a nearby stream. Another problem survivors faced, as well as the lack of heat, was the lack of food, as well as the threat of predators… fire solved both of these problems! Armed with a flint fire striker, each team raced for sparks and smoke to create a fire great enough to boil and purify the water. Lastly, each team discovered an injured survivor who had broken their tibia and fibula into two parts. This required campers to stop the bleeding, make a splint and keep the casualty warm. The deserved winners were Megan’s team, including Mohammed, Mason, Brendon, and Ellie!
Happy to have saved every team member, campers set off back in search of Camp Suisse before an evening of pizza and pasta in Caprins after all their hard work!

Camp Suisse Olympics
24th July 2021
Today was the Olympics, and all campers from Reds right up to Yellows, took part. It all began with an opening ceremony for the ages, replete with chants, dances and even some mock sword fights to entertain the crowd!
After this, the Olympic Torch was lit and the tournament began. Self made flags were waved and face paint proudly shown as we paraded down to the football pitch, where the events took place. Events such as unihoc, three legged football and the tug of war proved popular. Some serious skill was shown by Mathilde and Maria in the three legged football, but they were not to be outdone by Ari’s performance at the water can relay.
After all of the excitement of the day, the closing ceremony was held and the winners were announced. After an unusual tie-breaker of a ‘moo-off’ between Norway and the UK, Norway took third, the UK took first and the winners of the Olympics were Brazil! A great and exciting day was had by all!

Yellow Group: Languages and Woodcraft Workshop
23rd July 2021
Another fantastic Friday was had by all here at Camp Suisse! The campers shined in their language lessons this morning, especially Mattia, who sang the class’s chosen karaoke song at the top of his lungs! The students of French are all eagerly awaiting to sing the Lion King’s rendition of The Lion Sleeps Tonight at the karaoke night next week!
Throughout the afternoon, the Yellow group created sculptures made of wood and rope; first drawing up a plan and then turning it into a reality in the forest. Poppy succeeded in making a Wimbledon worthy tennis racket out of sticks, leaves and flowers. Sejal, Sam and Greta came together to exhibit some awesome team work skills to create a bespoke seagull. The entire group made up chants, danced and burnt their sculptures. Greta and Ellie ballet danced emotively to music while Polina’s artistically crafted wifi sculpture was set alight on the campfire. Yet again another wonderful day was had by all!

Yellow Group: Lake Day
22nd July 2021
On a hot sunny morning, the yellow campers headed to Villeneuve for a wonderful day at the pool, right next to Lake Geneva!
Upon arrival, Matthew and Sejal jumped straight into the pool, while Mason had to build up the courage to take the plunge.
First on the agenda was paddle boarding with Julliene! Anna and Hannah were the standouts of Mary’s group, and Irene and Poala in Cian’s.
After a spot of lunch, the banana boat arrived! The campers took it in turns to board the banana, and were tossed around the lake. The banana boating involved high speed thrills, so while some were nervous, all were glad to have taken part.
We ended the day with some diving board action- Lucie faced her fears and managed the middle board.
We got back to camp, and now look forward to an evening cooking at the campfire.

Yellow Group: Moving Mountains!
21st July 2021
After a good night’s sleep following yesterday’s glacier visit, this morning the Yellow group commenced their day with language classes. In French, they studied the vocabulary for directions and also families! In English they studied cultural differences.
This afternoon, after a tasty hot lunch, we headed to the sunny football pitch. Here we enjoyed an afternoon of ‘Moving Mountains’; a unique and brand new Camp Suisse activity! It involved a series of team building games; Charles and Itziar particularly enjoyed the ‘spiders web’, while Sejal and Samantha especially enjoyed the team building ‘bomb disposal activity’. This evening the campers headed up to the picnic area for a delicious barbecue dinner before an evening of games and sports!

Yellow Group: Glacier Day
20th July 2021
Bright and early this morning, the Yellow Group awoke (a little earlier than usual…) to their second excursion of Session Two – Glacier 3000!
They ambled sleepily to the dining hall, where we had breakfast, grabbed our packed lunches and hopped onto the bus. After a winding bus ride down the mountain, across the Rhone Valley, and up the Diablerets Massif to the glacier, we then boarded the gondola which whisked us up to the top of the glacier.
Our first activity was husky sleigh rides – the Yellows zoomed across the snow, and even got to pet the dogs after! Next, we arrived at the sledding zone- where we all slipped and sledded down the slope until our hearts content! We even had some staff-camper races… in which the campers came out on top!
We then headed up to the Alpine Coaster (Europe’s highest altitude roller-coaster!) – which Lucie and Samantha particularly enjoyed!
It was then time to embark on the exhilarating Peak Walk; a hair-raising walkway that links two mountain peaks, where the views were absolutely stunning. All too soon, it was time to get back on the bus to Camp, where this afternoon we chilled out and played a few games.

Green & Yellow Groups: Language Learning & Sports Tournament!

With the morning sun shining bright over the Camp Suisse centre in Torgon, the senior campers began their day with the first class of language lessons of the session. Unlike the typical school setup, the spectacular views of the soaring Swiss mountains provided the backdrop for their outdoor classroom as the students learned about all things related to the international cultures of their classmates through the target language. In the advanced English class, each student shared facts regarding their families, interests and future plans and found out that they had more in common with each other than had initially anticipated. The campers made their way back from the outdoor classroom to the centre in time to enjoy a delicious warm lunch of hot dogs and salad cooked fresh from the kitchen.
After lunch the greens and yellows trekked to the football pitch for a sports tournament with a twist! Eight teams led by the group leaders battled it out with three-legged football, tennis-baseball, ultimate frisbee, and hockey. Greta gave her all on the footy pitch, while Hannah P excelled in in the ultimate frisbee. We witnessed thunderous smacks of the ball on the rounders bat, particularly when Mohammed stepped up to the mark. Nico was a real team player, keeping his team spirits up during hockey. Pablo and Vasily kept good rhythm during three-legged football and hobbled to victory for Suus’ team. It was Joan’s team who ultimately clinched victory in an epic moo-off.
The campers await an evening of rhythm and rhyme in one of the most popular evening activities- Junkyard Band! And an early wake-up tomorrow for the Glacier…

Green & Yellow Groups: Parc Aventure
18th July 2021
Today the greens and yellows all spent the day at Parc Aventure. The campers enjoyed swinging through the forrest’s skyline and pushing themselves to the limit with their agility and balance. Matthew whizzed around the high ropes whilst Sasha and Jasmine developed a newfound love for climbing. Louise and Jojo pushes themselves and did the climbing wall and tried the drop. The campers also completed a language test and will start their lessons tomorrow.

“And I will walk 500 miles!”
17th July 2021
Today our campers had the most tremendous day hiking to FRANCE ! What a day they had going up chair lifts and hiking to their hearts content.
Today was also the new arrival day, which stirred up some excitement between campers that are staying and staff. Campers have had the opportunity to mingle and get to know the new arrivals, which is all extremely exciting! Tonight the campers will be introduced to a number of team building activities and ice breakers to get everybody chatting and introduced to new cultures and ways of life.

Green & Yellow Groups: Prepping for Prom!
15th July 2021
The greens and yellows spent another great day at camp. With the rainy weather persisting, they spent the morning either on the climbing wall with Shane, making friendship bracelets and prom decorations with Hannah, or inventing ping pong trick shots (Rube Goldberg style) with Cian.
Simona and Rea were particularly inventive with the trick shots, and we managed to get many successful shots filmed!
After some lunch, the green group set off from the centre to Torgon suspension bridge! Though the weather was not perfect, spirits remained high as Jasmine conquered her fear of heights- cheered on by the rest of the green campers.
Back at camp, the yellows enjoyed a competitive game of 5-a-side football.
The greens and yellows reunited for a lively game of bench hockey, where sticks were clashing and balls were flying! The clear stars of the game were Ombeline and Dannika- defending their benches dutifully, and scoring with skill and precision!
The campers then packed their bags and put on their best clothes ready for prom night- we are looking forward to a brilliant final night ahead, Hawaiian style!
