20th July 2013
Today started in a chilled-out fashion with campers and staff enjoying a one hour lie-in followed by a leisurely breakfast. We all then embarked upon a ‘big clean’, leaving bedrooms looking spotless.Language lessons were in full flow from 11am with campers rehearsing for the talent show tomorrow evening. Some groups were heard enthusiastically practicing songs, others rehearsing plays but some groups were keeping their talent show plans a surprise until tomorrow’s eagerly-awaited event. At lunch we welcomed some new arrivals to the camp from Moscow and we all then posed for camp photos, some serious and some funny with piggy backs and wheelbarrows featuring among some groups! All groups then prepared themselves for a leisurely hike, starting with a sea of red t-shirts crossing the suspension bridge which was rocking from side to side! We then took a stroll through the forest to the football pitch where we took part in a variety of activities whilst enjoying the sunshine. Both campers and staff enjoyed making friendship bracelets and others engaged in a friendly kick-about in preparation for this evening’s “staff versus campers” football match… (Sports coaches were feeling particularly competitive in an attempt to keep their pride in the next football coaching session!) A great time was had by all today and at dinner campers were refreshed and revitalised after a little relaxation, ready to embark upon a second fun-filled week at camp….!

The day started off with sports and languages, the positive attitude and enthusiasm from the morning continued through to the afternoon activities. Yellow group began by practising their Robin Hood skills during archery. The boys boasted that they had this is in ‘the bag,’ however it was Benedetta who showed all the boys up by hitting the bulls eye and popping the balloon.
The campers then moved onto climbing. From the word ‘go’ it was clear to see we had a certain Spiderman in the room…Matt. Although for others like Abdelelah the challenge seemed more daunting. However once he gave it a go there was no stopping him!
All round it was a very enjoyable fay for our Yellow campers!

Another day over at camp Suisse and another bunch of happy ‘yellow’ campers.
From football, tennis, basketball and climbing to the languages of German, English, French, and Spanish; all the yellow group seem to be settling in well! Alex Haug is already famous for his tennis ability whereas BIDO is being rewarded NOGROTS (Camp Suisse money) for his great work in French.
After lunch it was time to head off to a place where one can go to experience all the fun you can create with water….AQUA PARC!!!!!! All the kids loved the slides, only some braved the booster loop and the girls struggled to remove themselves from the lazy lagoon. Dried off and after doing every slide and ride possible it was Motreux Jazz Festival time!!!!!
The weather was uncertain as the clouds were rolling over lake Geneva but this did not stop the campers from tasting some yummy cuisine and buying those ever special souvenirs for loved ones back home. Everyone especially loved the view of the lake and the array of talent that the buskers were showcasing.
A quick sprint to the bus as it started to pour with rain and another day at camp Suisse achieved!

16th July 2013
Another sunny day at Camp Suisse turned out to be the perfect setting for the mountain biking exercises at Plan du Croix and final descend back to Camp Suisse (although some went a bit further and had to ride back up again). High up in the mountains, surrounded by the beautiful Alpine peaks, the afternoon started off with activity leaders JP and Craig explaining how to become professional mountain bikers who can tackle any type of path, from the really simple to the more difficult ones. Multiple obstacle courses were laid out and (eventually) mastered by all campers. Then it was time for the descend from the mountain. The yellows were divided into two groups. The ones with more experience made a long descend down to the church and had a steep climb back up again to Camp, whilst the other group first “got more to grips” with the mountain bikes and then rode back to Camp Suisse along intricate paths in the woods. The day ended with the realisation that it is easier (and more pleasurable) to go down hill than going up.

It was another glorious day at sunny Camp Suisse and all Yellow group were waiting patiently to begin this 3-4 hour hike around the mountain. But before they could begin all Yellow group participated in their langaguage and/or sports class. After all the campers munched down their food, it was now time for the Bush Craft Hike!
As they departed from camp many were singing and chatting away happily. The group leaders expressed their knowledge of the local fauna and flora as they continuted the hike. Kariem and Austin both showed off their nature knowledge as well, suprising many of the campers with their new facts.

SESSION TWO ARE YOU READY?!?
We are all looking forward to welcoming you to Camp Suisse 2013!
Let the good times begin!

As the campers all rolled in over a number of hours, many were getting to know their new group members or reuniting with returners.
For those who arrived before dinner, the activies that were offered were the climbing wall, tennis, sports at the football pitch and in the patinoire, as well as some good old table tennis!!
Many were anxious at the thought of not knowing anyone, but we can now say – noone seems to have inhibitions!
All in all a positive start to our new journey.
Watch this space!

As the sun continued to shine at Camp Suisse, all colour groups gathered for Mission Day before lunch. Mission Day is known to cause excitement around camp for both staff and campers alike as the day involves carrying out a series of different tasks or “missions”. These missions were part of a military affair as campers were split into five squadrons that competed against each other – Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo. With two squadron leaders commanding each group, points were awarded to squadrons depending upon how well they performed in each mission. In preparation of the afternoon activities, each squadron created and rehearsed chants and marches which were demonstrated in between missions to put fear into the eyes of enemy squadrons. Groups also applied camouflage to complete the army look. After lunch, the missions got underway. Vehicle mobility training included a timed relay around a course that tested everyones mountain biking skills. Target practice involved the use of bow and arrows as accuracy was needed to aim for the selected targets. The third mission, navigation skills, was based around orienteering as squadrons had to navigate to certain check points to collect letters. Groups then had to spell as many words as possible out of the letters they’d received. Vertical infiltration training took place on the climbing wall which contained challenging tasks such as climbing in the dark with the use of head torches. Finally, survival training demanded the use of adventurous bush craft methods. This entailed the art of building and camouflaging shelters as well as making a fire. It was a close battle between all five squadrons but team Bravo, headed by squadron leaders Matt and Jess, came out on top after winning the most amount of points in total. Overall, all campers enjoyed the thrill of Mission Day which strengthened the positive vibe around Camp Suisse as the end of session one approaches!

Today the Green and Yellow group went down to Lake Geneva where they were able to be driven from side to side on a banana boat at top speeds. As well as the sun, the camper’s excitement and enthusiasm was shining for all to see. It was a great day for everybody involved, and it was even better to see people like Kasvi who had pre banana nerves to get on and have a great time going bananas with fellow campers whilst being thrown off into the sea. To top the day off the campers were allowed to visit the Montreaux Jazz Festival which enabled the campers to enjoy strolling by the lake side, browsing at various different stalls which sold different varieties of products for the campers to get their hands on. All in all a great day with fantastic positive attitudes and impeccable manners from our campers, very pleased! GO TEAM!
