Swiss Day for the Greens!

3rd August 2018

In the year 1291, three cantons signed a charter of peace, creating the core of what would later become Switzerland, and today it is celebrated with traditional music, food, and lots of good energy.

The Green Group, similarly, also had what can be named a ‘traditional’ Camp Suisse day. They started with a good breakfast – they needed it to recover from the excursion all the way to Lac Tanney on Monday, followed by some strong swimming in Lake Geneva on Tuesday.

With some exceptional sunshine and fresh air, the morning continued with the discovery of new bushcraft survival skills. The campers were introduced not only to simple map reading, but also to the correct use of compasses, how to measure distances, and being able to locate trails. This was followed by making shelters and beds using almost entirely material found in the woods. The campers are now fully equipped with survival skills.

Lunch was followed by the first English, French, German, and Spanish lessons for the Green Group. Assigned to their classes, and with their new notebooks, the campers started to converse and learn in their chosen target languages.

After the lessons, the campers went down to Torgon square to see for themselves how the Swiss celebrate their national holiday, and they weren’t disappointed, as they returned with Swiss flags painted all over their faces. Unfortunately there was also a traditional Camp Suisse thunderstorm looming over the centre, forcing the campers to have their evening activity inside. It was also a good opportunity to chill after the very active last days.

Mountain Adventure for the Greens!

23rd July 2018

Sunday started with an 8am breakfast and two hours of languages for all greens and yellows, they are really coming on! We then had a brilliant 90 minutes on the climbing wall improving our footwork and coordination. A delicious lunch followed, packed with hot dogs, salads, baked potatoes, panini’s and more!

After lunch we got packed up for our mountain adventure day and set off up the hill and into the forest. Campers experienced life in the wilderness as they constructed shelters, filtered water and made fire ?. It was an amazing afternoon and we were blessed with glorious weather too! We ventured back down to camp for shower hour then were treated to a delicious meal at our local restaurant ‘Les Caprins’. We gorged on pizza and some bought delicious ice cream for dessert. After dinner we chilled and played games in the restaurant before returning to the centre- what a day!

Green Group : chocolate y el queso !

20th July 2018

Chocolate and cheese have been the protagonists of the day today. The Green Group was able to enjoy a morning at the Cailler chocolate factory. The tour has allowed to know the history and the process of production of this sweet and also have had the opportunity to taste the different types of chocolate that are sold. Right after lunch they went to Gruyere, the famous town known for its cheese. The campers  had free time to visit the different attractions that it houses, have a wonder around and buy souvenirs in stores. In addition, throughout the day they had to answer a survey for their language classes. The day ended with a delicious barbecue and some games on the football field.

Banana Boating for the Greens & Yellows

We started our journey today with some world class education from our camp language teachers, recapping on our quiz from the chocolate factory. Following this, we set off down the hill to Villeneuve to go banana boating, diving and sunbathing by the picturesque Lac Leman (Lake Geneva).

After an outrageous amount of fun, we came back up the road to a plateful of fandabbytastic fajitas for dinner! We then had the challenge of creating compelling 3 minute videos to show the rest of the group before a well earned trip to bed.

Greens & Yellows go to the Glacier!

19th July 2018

What a tiring and exciting day the Greens and Yellows have had! We set off at 7am and ventured to Gstaadt where we jumped in a couple of cable cars which took us up to Glacier 3000. It was slightly foggy but that didn’t dampen our spirits as we rode sleds pulled by husky dogs and the alpine rollercoaster!

We had some lunch and headed down the mountain to warm up our fingers and toes. We travelled back to camp before walking up to the football pitch to take part in a massive extreme golf competition. We had fairly worked up an appetite by the time dinner came around, which was an outstanding meal consisting of chimmichurri pork and all the trimmings!

Finally, campers took a vote and watched a movie whilst sipping on a hot chocolate- the perfect end to a long day!

Delicious meals were served by the kitchen staff and they continued dancing through the night… time to say goodbye to campers and celebrate the friendship that were made during these 2 weeks. Until next time! 🙂

9th July 2018

This morning the entire camp was treated to a well deserved lie in, followed by a Nutella filled breakfast for reds and blues. Room inspections then began after the campers had made sure their bedrooms were perfect and clean for another week at camp.
Once the rooms were perfect and lunch was finished, exciting times laid ahead as Olympic day began.

Campers were sorted into different countries with members from red group up to yellow group. Campers got to put on face paint, make up chants and design a flag for their respective countries. The Olympic ceremony began with the lighting of the Olympic torch while each team descended to their national anthem. Campers then all headed to the football pitch where they competed in fun games such as an egg and spoon race, tug of war and frisbee golf. After touch competition, Brazil were crowned the Olympic gold medalists, closely followed by Japan and Egypt, with Maria Sofia and Adam G from green group winning prizes! The Olympics was followed by an impromptu water fight and then shower hour. Evening entertainment was an elective, with green group choosing to relax and do yoga, dance with a Zumba class and play more sports. Overall a great day!
