Despite the cold weather in Torgon today we are keeping warm with our memories of the fantastic time we had at Camp Suisse last summer…. warm weather in the amazing Alps, outdoor activities, the awesome banana boating, fun language lessons and much more!

We are delighted to have started the booking process for 2014. It’s a bit grey here in the UK so the summer sunshine feels like a distant memory! Roll on 2014!! Clean up week 2013

So it is that time of year again… Clean Up Week!!! With a team of just 20 staff remaining, it is time to shine up the grills, clean the plates, paint the walls, mow the lawn and mop every bit of ground we walk upon. There will soon be no sign we were even here, let alone that so many memories have been made over the past 3 months! We would like to express a huge thank you to everyone that has come through our resort here at Camp Suisse; Teachers, school children international campers and staff alike! We hope to see you all once again in the future.

It has been a privilege for all the staff to have the opportunity to meet such vibrant and fantastic kids and be able to share such experiences with them. We cannot explain in words how rewarding this has been for all of the staff here at Camp Suisse!!

OLYMPICS DAY!
7th August 2013
Today the campers woke up to a slightly cold and wet view of the mountains. The weather was a change from the beautiful clear sunny skies we’ve been lucky enough to experience but nonetheless we were not going to let this rain dampen our spirits.
First up this morning was sports and languages where campers got to show off their skills in sport and from what I’ve heard, all campers are advancing well in languages. Youssef and Fares Hedda are especially excelling well in English.
After lunch it was time to warm up our voices, paint our faces and try our best to earn the title of “Winner of Camp Suisse Olympics, Session 3, 2013”. All campers were out into groups where they had to paint each others faces, make up a creative team chant and think up some sort of dance to go with their cheer.
In the first hour of Olympics it seemed that Japan were going to take the title but as the day progressed it seemed to be a close game between Jamaica and Brazil. After facing an afternoon of difficult challenges and by using their sheer determination and teamwork Jamaica took the title of “Winner of Camp Suisse Olympics, Session 3, 2013”. Closely behind and drawing on second place were China and Brazil and in a well deserved third place was Japan.
All the campers got right into the Olympic spirit, enjoyed the afternoon and did their country proud!

Red and Blue Return from Camping
Yesterday after a normal lessons and sport we had a very special colour meeting… one to check we had all the kit we needed for camping! Once we checked we had everything (after a few runs to the chalets for get toothbrushes), we set off on a hike up the mountain. It was a long hike in hot weather but we had lots of water breaks and enjoyed overcoming the challenge. Anna took a lead, marching at the front of the group. When we reached our home for the evening we had the choice to walk to France. The group leaders were shocked by the amount of campers who chose to do more walking, and we were especially proud of Tomisin and Evie for pushing themselves to do it.
When the group came back from France we sat down for a barbecue. Sadly rain meant we ate indoors but it was still yummy!
Luckily after dinner the weather cleared and we went out into the mountain to forage for wood for our fire. After a great effort from everyone we had a brilliant camp fire. We spent the evening eating bananas, chocolate and roasted marshmallows on the fire. We also sang songs around the fire and told scary stories, which was exciting but scary!
Then we went to bed tucked up in our sleeping bags for a night of well-deserved rest.
Today we woke up and packed our bags ready to walk back down to Camp Suisse. The walk down was much easier than the walk up! When we got back we even had time to shower and chill before lunch. All in all camping was a great success!!
Greens and Yellows return from camping and take on the BIG BANANA!

Having spent the night camping a stone’s throw from the French border, the Greens and Yellows enjoyed a later start to the day before the steady walk down to Camp Suisse in the morning sunshine. The downhill trip was considerably easier on some of the campers and goof time was made. The mid-morning arrival back at camp gave the campers some time to shower and prepare for the afternoons activity of banana boating before making their way to the restaurant for lunch. Upon arrival at Lake Geneva, the campers were prepared for their afternoon of having face full of water and then sent hurtling across the water, screams and laughter in its wake. Having lowered the water level of Lake Geneva quite considerably with the amount of water swallowed, the drenched campers were then allowed to chill out in the lake – a nearly swimming pool. The hot weather and beaming sunshine mean the ice cream shop was a particular hot sport but alas the weather was not to last; distant thunder, lightning and pitch black storm clouds soon become not so distant and the pre-return pack up had to be done with rather more a hop, skip, jump and run than a mere leisurely pace would have allowed for. Having just beaten the rain, the campers made it back for shower hour and dinner before evening activities.
While Bingo was initially dismiss as an ‘old persons game,’ there were rather too many ‘YES’ and ‘OHs’ to be able to dismiss it as such. With juggling balls, chocolate, t-shirts and backpacks up for grabs as prizes; brows were furrowed in tense anticipation. The winner enjoyed the spoils the less fortunate will have to try their luck tomorrow as the final few days begin to bring session three of Camp Suisse 2013 rather too hastily to a close.
Green and Yellows go camping!!
5th August 2013
After our usual routine of sports and languages classes we all packed up ready for our camping adventure. During the hike up to our camping spot, we tackled many different paths including uphill, downhill, steep and narrow. Despite everyone feeling worn out, once we reached our destination there were smiles all round. Getting to the top we had the opportunity to look out into the beautiful scenery in front and below us. Everyone was in awe of our surroundings, especially since it was such a clear and sunny day!
Before our BBQ dinner, some of the campers took the chance to hike a particularity arduous, yet satisfying trail to France. Once arriving to the border we had again another chance to take in the scenery, including the picturesque views of Lake Geneva.
Once returning back to camp the BBQ dinner was all ready for us to tuck in to!
This involved a dessert of barbecued bananas and a sing-song. After such a laborious day, we all deserved a good night’s sleep!
Red and Blue activities!
It was another beautiful day in the Swiss Alps and after a busy morning of languages and sports the Reds and Blues headed off to their afternoon activity. The first session of the afternoon was archery on the tennis courts. Both groups showed great skills in this activity, Platon and Viktorija doing particularly well. After a well-earned rest for the afternoon tea we got for our next activity of ghyll scrambling. With the weather being so hot we were all looking forward to cooling down in the river. We headed off to the ghyll and started to ‘scramble’ up it. The water was cold and refreshing and everyone seemed to embrace it! With many obstacles to manoeuvre such as bridges and ropes, this made the ascent even more exciting- with lots of splashing going on too! When we reached the end of our track the Reds and Blues were keen to keep going and scramble back down the river again to our starting point. A fantastic effort from everyone! Platon once again was enthusiastic, along with Anie. Our walk back to camp in the scorching sun soon dried us off and warmed us up for our next adventure tomorrow! Another great day for Reds and Blues!
