Since the Red, Greens and Yellows were away for an early morning visit to Glacier 3000, the White group enjoyed a peaceful breakfast before setting off for language lessons and tennis training.
After a morning of both mind a physical stimulation the campers were well prepped for the bush hike led by Calum. Their creative tenacity was first put to test in the bid to create the most lavish shelter for a small woodland creature. The group was split and the campers were given 40 minutes to use the natural materials around them to construct the shelter. Despite the fierce competition from all groups, the outstanding winners as voted by Oli, Kaity and Calum, was Matthew, Conrad and Marius’ team.
During the descent back down the mountain, Calum educated the group about the origin of the Alpine mountainous region. He told them about the role of glaciers in the occurrence of U shaped valleys and V shaped valleys in this particular region. They learned about the properties of moss and how it can be used to filter water. The groups were then given 2 water filtering bottles with moss inside for the purpose of filtering dirty water. The campers were awed to see that the water did actually exit the second bottle clear

Testing all-round for the White group today, they were required to rack their brains for the language aptitude test. In the sports hall, the dexterity of their ball skills was put to the test. Eduard excelled providing the rest of the White group with a spectacular expose of his Basketball skills.
The group continued to share their talents in the afternoon session of Archery, where Matthew’s keen eye and steady Bow hand earned him the ‘Robin Hood’ title!

‘Fear’ is not part of our campers’ psyche. This time around, the White group together with the yellow group have faced a new challenge at Adventure Park. Shakey bridge climbing and zip lines was the activity choice of the protagonists in the group during the afternoon. Sunshine and the valuable help from our instructors Jon and Nathan completed the ingredients of another wonderful day in Camp Suisse.

A previous thundery night had cleared the sky for bright Saturday in Torgon. Languages and sport preceded an afternoon hike for the whole camp. Everyone took the chairlift up the mountain, with the Yellow groups buddying up with some of the smaller members of camp.
A swift pace set by activities Jim ensured good progress was made, and we were soon at the half way mark for a well-deserved water break. Scaling fields, mud, rocky paths and occasional cow in an opposite field, the group, before long, gathered as a whole for afternoon tea on the football pitch where a great sense of achievement was felt by all.
Following shower hour and dinner, the campers had time to prepare for the forthcoming talent show – ideas ran wild, so who knows what awaits the audience tomorrow night!
Olympics days dawns on us tomorrow so our campers had better be recharging their batteries for some gold medal performances!

A change of scenery was experienced today for the White group as we headed up to the snow-capped mountains for a ride with the husky sledding. An earlier 6 am breakfast meant campers were fuelled up and ready to head to the mountains where campers were surprised to experience the sudden change in climate from warm, sunny days at Torgon to snowy, wintry weather at Glacier 3000 – our Brazilian campers seemed the most shocked by the snow! However, undeterred by the colder weather, our campers were greeted by a pack of very excited huskies and campers even got the chance to pet the dogs followed by a thrilling ride on the sled. Campers then enjoyed a well-deserved packed lunch and once we all had refuelled we headed down to the picturesque Lake Geneva for swimming. Our braver members of camp ventured to the highest diving board, while others spectated at the side lines with an ice-cream.

After a couple of cloudy wet days, we were all thankful to be awoken by the rays of light flooding through the mountainous valleys. With a flawless blue sky in existence, we sat in the dining room, devoured our breakfast banquet that comprised of a selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, toast and eggs. At 9am, the Green and White groups chose either to shot some hoops in basketball or ace their peers off the court in tennis during their first sport session. My tennis group, comprising of 25 tennis ace wannabes participated in some warm-up games and then we had a lesson in how to accurately hit a backhand. All 25 Roger Federers to be mastered this with supreme precision and then were able to show off their tremendous dexterity in a game of ‘pressure doubles’ followed by ‘around the world’ – where the player must hit a backhanded shot over the net and run to the other side to receive the opponent’s shot.

At 10.45 the campers reconvened at Camp Suisse central to take part in their various language classes. A lunch of fresh salad, pasta and couscous t followed before the white group, led by Oli, Aimee and Noelia, ventured up the mountain to Plan de Croix for a 4 hour mountain biking session. The campers were split in to 3 groups, who then took part in various levels of the mountain bike tracks. Our instruction focused on various skills and we even tackled some jumps before riding down the mountain and back to Camp Suisse headquarters to tuck in to chicken curry or vegetable lasagne followed by fruit salad. Currently, the campers are taking part in the infamous ‘Torgonahunt’ or casino night and will no doubt collapse in to their beds at 9.30pm after such a day of activity. They had better rest up well, because tomorrow promises to deliver a busy day with a 5 am wake up. The White and Red group aim to redress for an early morning trip to Glacier 3000 followed by a relaxing dip in the stunning Villeneuve swimming pool.

Day 4 at sunny Camp Suisse saw the White group descend the hill upon which Torgon rests down in to the valley where they scaled an outdoor rock face. Some campers were a little apprehensive about climbing at the uppermost height, but with the help and encouragement of our fantastic instructors everyone managed to put in their best effort and had vastly improved their climbing skills by the end of the session. The campers also managed to take lots of photos as a souvenir of a great day out. Certainly one to remember!
2nd July 2012
The white group of campers had a busy and exciting Monday. After lunch, we kick started our day with orienteering organised by James and Sarah, which required our intrepid explorers to use their navigation skills to find their way through the leafy forest. They learned about pacings and utilised their compass skills to search for the hidden monkeys around the woodland.
After finding all of the monkeys, the group took a well-deserved rest and wet their whistle with freshly squeezed lemonade. Biscuits at afternoon tea and despite the drizzly weather the campers were prepped and ready to give Ghyll scrambling a go! Admittedly the water was a little on the fresh side however the campers bravely and enthusiastically climbed up a stream and back down again though they were faced with many challenging obstacles en route! We may have finished the day a little wet, but spirits were high and we all had a fantastic time.
