Day One – Groups Red and Blue
5th July 2015
Another beautiful sunny day was kicked off with some short language assessments in order to sort our Red and Blue campers into their language classes!
After rattling those brainy heads, the campers boarded the Camp Suisse Express coach and headed down to Lake Geneva to try their hands at Banana Boating!
After a whole morning of whizzing across the lake, laughing and screaming (especially from Quinn and Danil), the campers were ready for a chill down, so they spent a couple of hours swimming and relaxing by the waterside.
After dinner, for evening entertainment our Red and Blue campers took to the microphones for Karaoke night! And so last night the whole of the Torgon Valley was treated to Red group’s rendition of Mama Mia by ABBA.

It has been a privilege for all the staff to have the opportunity to meet such vibrant and fantastic kids and be able to share such experiences with them. We cannot explain in words how rewarding this has been for all of the staff here at Camp Suisse!!

OLYMPICS DAY!
7th August 2013
Today the campers woke up to a slightly cold and wet view of the mountains. The weather was a change from the beautiful clear sunny skies we’ve been lucky enough to experience but nonetheless we were not going to let this rain dampen our spirits.
First up this morning was sports and languages where campers got to show off their skills in sport and from what I’ve heard, all campers are advancing well in languages. Youssef and Fares Hedda are especially excelling well in English.
After lunch it was time to warm up our voices, paint our faces and try our best to earn the title of “Winner of Camp Suisse Olympics, Session 3, 2013”. All campers were out into groups where they had to paint each others faces, make up a creative team chant and think up some sort of dance to go with their cheer.
In the first hour of Olympics it seemed that Japan were going to take the title but as the day progressed it seemed to be a close game between Jamaica and Brazil. After facing an afternoon of difficult challenges and by using their sheer determination and teamwork Jamaica took the title of “Winner of Camp Suisse Olympics, Session 3, 2013”. Closely behind and drawing on second place were China and Brazil and in a well deserved third place was Japan.
All the campers got right into the Olympic spirit, enjoyed the afternoon and did their country proud!

Red and Blue Return from Camping
Yesterday after a normal lessons and sport we had a very special colour meeting… one to check we had all the kit we needed for camping! Once we checked we had everything (after a few runs to the chalets for get toothbrushes), we set off on a hike up the mountain. It was a long hike in hot weather but we had lots of water breaks and enjoyed overcoming the challenge. Anna took a lead, marching at the front of the group. When we reached our home for the evening we had the choice to walk to France. The group leaders were shocked by the amount of campers who chose to do more walking, and we were especially proud of Tomisin and Evie for pushing themselves to do it.
When the group came back from France we sat down for a barbecue. Sadly rain meant we ate indoors but it was still yummy!
Luckily after dinner the weather cleared and we went out into the mountain to forage for wood for our fire. After a great effort from everyone we had a brilliant camp fire. We spent the evening eating bananas, chocolate and roasted marshmallows on the fire. We also sang songs around the fire and told scary stories, which was exciting but scary!
Then we went to bed tucked up in our sleeping bags for a night of well-deserved rest.
Today we woke up and packed our bags ready to walk back down to Camp Suisse. The walk down was much easier than the walk up! When we got back we even had time to shower and chill before lunch. All in all camping was a great success!!
Red and Blue activities!

It was another beautiful day in the Swiss Alps and after a busy morning of languages and sports the Reds and Blues headed off to their afternoon activity. The first session of the afternoon was archery on the tennis courts. Both groups showed great skills in this activity, Platon and Viktorija doing particularly well. After a well-earned rest for the afternoon tea we got for our next activity of ghyll scrambling. With the weather being so hot we were all looking forward to cooling down in the river. We headed off to the ghyll and started to ‘scramble’ up it. The water was cold and refreshing and everyone seemed to embrace it! With many obstacles to manoeuvre such as bridges and ropes, this made the ascent even more exciting- with lots of splashing going on too! When we reached the end of our track the Reds and Blues were keen to keep going and scramble back down the river again to our starting point. A fantastic effort from everyone! Platon once again was enthusiastic, along with Anie. Our walk back to camp in the scorching sun soon dried us off and warmed us up for our next adventure tomorrow! Another great day for Reds and Blues!
Red and Blues spend an afternoon rock climbing

Today looked like it might be a dreary day with the weather looking dull. We reluctantly put on long trousers and jumpers, but still packing shorts (being hopeful)!
Luckily the Swiss sunshine came through and today was another beautiful day. After lessons and languages we headed down the mountain for an afternoon of rock climbing. Some of us crawled up the cliff with ease immediately, while other worked hard and persevered to get to the top. It was great fun but bet very tiring,., meaning lots of us fell asleep on the minibus back. Back at the Camp Suisse centre we had a great meal that ended with huge, yummy coco pop crispy cakes (aka chocolate crackles)… definitely a well-deserved treat!
Saturday – all colours
3rd August 2013
An unusual day awaited our campers, mixed with a sense of bitterness as some very early goodbyes had to be made for those campers leaving us after this first week. While numbers might have reduced, the daily routine still remained largely untouched. A post-breakfast tidying of rooms was in order, followed by sports and languages as usual. The afternoon was spent in a rather chilled-out fashion with all of the campers being led to the football pitch via a rather more scenic route than usual so as to allow the campers to wath various stages of ‘Torgonabike’ which had been taking place all weekend. Upon arrival at the football pitch, still surrounded by the mountain bike tracks and competitors, the campers were left with the option to get involved with frisbee, football, or rounders. A brief dash of rain did not dampen any spirits as the campers enjoyed a chance to let their hair down on a less activity-driven afternoon. Shower hour and dinner ensued as always, before the Reds and Blues set about expressing their creative sides in ‘Arts & Crafts’ during their evening activities, while the Greens and Yellows split themselves between indoor football and the belting tunes of the hip hop dance lesson being hosted by Head of Colour, Tiff.
Mission Day for all colours
2nd August 2013
Big day at Camp Suisse as the campers and staff alike prepared for the treacherous and challenging missions ahead. Having been split into teams of all ages, strengths and characters, everyone headed out to the four different stations. We had vertical infiltration (climbing), vehicle mobility training (mountain biking) target practice (archery) and survival skills. At each station a new challenge lay ahead of our cadets and many obstacles were overcome.
After a great effort from every soldier and some amazing team work and spirit, it was team Echo who took the top prize and gained the most points across the very competitive board for their brilliant skills and hard work!

red & blues bananas

Today our Reds and Blues took to Lake Geneva for one of our favourite excursions- Banana Boating!
Whooping and walling the campers embraced a choppy ride, plunging into the lake at least once each. They all came together as an excellent team in the face of defeat to drag each other back aboard. Following their ride, the campers enjoyed the weather which was particularly kind to us on Swiss Day, by swimming; eating ice-cream and playing in Lake Geneva. The celebrations didn’t stop there on arrival back to camp. The campers entered into the spirit of Swiss Day by decorating themselves in red and white Swiss cross ribbons. They then sat down for a delightful 3 course meal including risotto, tartiflette and ice cream! It was a day thoroughly enjoyed by all those here at Camp Suisse!
