Session 2 – Day Six – Blue Group

16th July 2016

Today was an action packed day at Camp Suisse for the Blue Group. The day began with mountain adventures where the Blue Group worked as a team to  test their survival skills. Challenges faced and skills learnt included water filtration, putting up hammocks, hiking and collecting moss and food to light their own camp fires.

After lunch the Blue Group went off mountain biking which they all thoroughly enjoyed. Evening entertainment was Casino Night where the kids enjoyed placing their bets and bargaining for chips. It was an early night for the Blue Group as tomorrow is glacier trip!

Session 2 – Day Six – Green Group

Another bright and sunny morning at Camp Suisse. After stuffing our faces at breakfast we got prepared for a day out at Villeneuve & Montreux Jazz festival. We left camp for the journey down the mountain on the coach which was filled with fantastic tunes and everyone singing along.

Once we arrived in Villeneuve we set up base camp and let the children explore the swimming pool and lake whilst some played sports on the grass. The diving boards were awesome and some children went off the top one which was incredible. We had a picnic then had some more time to swim.

At around 14:30 we packed up camp and went for a nice scenic walk around Lake Geneva to Montreux Jazz Festival. Once at the jazz festival the children were given time to explore the shops, taste the food and listen to the music at Music in the Park – it’s safe to say they all had a great time.

At around 6:45 we headed back to camp for a late dinner (pizza and chips – yum!) before having shower hour and getting ready for bed to prepare ourselves for another great day at Camp Suisse.

Session 2 – Day Five – Green Group

15th July 2016

After breakfast Green Group got to choose between three activities: art jamming, climbing wall and sports. Masterpieces were painted, climbing monkeys were discovered and sports skills were showed off. After the morning activities we sat down for some well-earned lunch before language classes. In the classes campers were introduced to the songs they would be singing at languages karaoke night. For dinner we had a French themed meal as it was Bastille Day which comprised of French onion soup, beef bourguignon and tarte tatin.

For evening entertainment Green Group had the task of recreating a movie of their choice in 3 minutes and filming it. Official screenings of the completed movies shall be held during camp prom next week.

Another great day at Camp Suisse!

Session 2 – Day Five – Yellow Group

Team Yellow have had an exhausting but hugely enjoyable day! We kicked off with a hearty breakfast and then the campers chose between sports, climbing wall or art jamming! Most campers chose two activities and the variation meant everyone was enthusiastic and had a great time. The climbers managed to conquer some very advanced routes, those playing volleyball had a great game whilst the artwork produced by those art jamming was stunning!

After all the excitement of the morning activities, it was time for a delicious lunch. After we had refuelled it was time for another language lesson where the campers did some outdoor learning and were learning through games and interactive activities. Dinner was French themed for Bastille Day – french onion soup followed by beef bourguignon and tarte tatin for dessert. After dinner, evening entertainment was 3 minute movies where campers recreated their favourite films in a hilarious manner. These movies shall be premiered at the camp prom next week. We cant wait to watch them!

Session 2 – Day Five – Red Group

The day started with a delicious breakfast and staff flash mob singing a song from ‘Les Miserables’ whilst waving French flags to celebrate Bastille Day. After breakfast the campers enjoyed their language classes where they were learning new words, grammar and playing language games. After language class we grabbed their packed lunches and got on the bus to go to Labyrinth Adventure Park. On arrival we ate our lunches before setting off in small groups to explore and have fun! We climbed, slid down giant slides, played games, ran around and even made our way to the centre of the maze (without getting too lost).

After we had tired ourselves out we headed back to camp for shower hour followed by a delicious French themed dinner. As a starter we ate French onion soup, followed by beef bourguignon and tarte tatin for dessert, it was excellent. After dinner we played Bingo and then headed to bed for a much deserved nights sleep!

Session 2 – Day Five – Blue Group

Today was Bastille Day at Camp Suisse so during breakfast the campers were treated to a flash mob of staff singing a song from ‘Les Miserables’ and waving French flags. After a delicious breakfast it was time to put our brain into actions as it was language classes. The campers played games and learnt lots of new vocabulary. We then picked up our packed lunches and got on the bus to go to Labyrinth Adventure Park. When we arrived we sat and ate our lunches and set up a base camp area before campers set off to explore in smaller groups. The park was incredibly entertaining and everyone was happy playing in the mazes, on the zip lines, wrestling in the sumo suits and on the slides.

After a tasty French themed meal – french onion soup, beef bourguignon and tarte tatin – the blue group got to play bingo for evening entertainment.

Overall another great day at camp!

Session 2 – Day Four – Red Blog

14th July 2016

Another wonderful day at Camp Suisse! Red Group kicked off the morning with a sports session led by the group leaders and camp mentors. They all threw themselves into games of capture the flag, football, tag, rugby and many more.

After a delicious hot lunch the afternoon commenced with language lessons. The Red Group split up into their French, German, Spanish and English classes where they participated in an array of games, conversation, activities and vocabulary.

Following a delicious dinner of lasagne and waffles, our Red campers were then given the options for their evening activity. Half spent the evening scrambling on the climbing wall while the others sat back and enjoyed a film.

All in all, another jam-packed day at Camp Suisse.

Session 2 – Day Four – Blue Group

The morning started off with a great breakfast followed by morning activity which was ‘Break the Safe’. The Blues got separated into groups of five with a number of different tasks to solve. The tasks were laid out as a treasure hunt with multiple steps. As the teams worked together they found a number at the end of each task. This then lead to them having six numbers that they had to put together correctly to break the code. After this it was time for lunch followed by language lessons in the afternoon.

After dinner the children had a choice between indoor rock climbing or watching a movie. After this it was time to head to bed for a good night sleep!

Session 2 – Day Four – Yellow Group

The Yellow Group started their day with language lessons in English, Spanish, German and French. The language teachers said all the classes are going really well and the campers have already improving a lot! After a nice hot lunch of paninis, hot dogs and jacket potatoes the group continued their day. Next up was rock climbing on the indoor wall when we saw the Yellow Group put Spider man to shame with the speed they were climbing up those walls. It was great to see everyone putting in a lot of effort and giving it a go. The Yellow Group were all supporting each other and cheering each other on. After this we played some team building games which required us all to work together. The Yellow Group did amazingly at this and it brought the group even closer together. After dinner it was time to get our poker faces on as it was Casino Night!

Session 2 – Day Four – Green Group

Campers arose to a typically filling breakfast before settling in for a morning of language lessons. With heads full of new vocabulary, tenses and conjugations we refuelled with a hearty lunch. There were then two new challenges to face that afternoon – team building games and the climbing wall. The activity leaders gave a safety briefing before all campers tried traversing across the wall. Then it was time to fit harnesses and try scaling the different routes. All campers achieved great success getting to the top of the wall with some challenging themselves to only stick to specific coloured holds, coded routes, or even climbing with only one arm.

Meanwhile in team building games the highlight was undoubtedly the crate climb which saw campers support each other in ascending a pile of crates to ring the bell dangling from the roof of the Camp Suisse building.

With another delicious dinner and entertaining evening activity another day at Camp Suisse had flown by.
