Job description - Camp Suisse "Group Leader"

Ages: 19+

Key Duties:

  • Be dedicated to a small group of campers (4 to 7 kids) to mentor for each fortnightly period

  • Personally mentor and lead your group - be the friend and guide of each individual

  • Accompany your group on all activities and excursions, including encouraging and motivating them where necessary

  • Offer feedback on the success and popularity of activities and the campers’ enjoyment of different events

  • Enjoy yourself!

  • Points to note:

  • YOU as an individual will be one of the critical factors in ensuring that those campers in your care have an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. With the outstanding range of activities on offer this should be a pleasure. The work is both extremely good fun and very rewarding. It is helpful if you thrive in a busy environment as daily hours are long (from breakfast to evening).

  • Personal requirements / characteristics:

  • Camp Suisse group leaders need to have a positive attitude to work and a genuine interest in kids and young people. The ability to build a good rapport with children is important. You should have an open mind and be tolerant of all cultures, races and languages. Above all you should be a team player who is kind, caring, and great fun! It is helpful if you have experience with children, first aid training, and are keen on sports and the outdoors.

    Job description - Camp Suisse (residential) "Activity Leader" (multi-activity)

    Ages: 19+

    Key Duties:

  • Deliver professional, effective and great fun sports and activity classes to campers

  • Design and plan activity sessions to suit specific requirements (age, weather, aims)

  • Lead and motivate each individual to benefit maximally from your activities

  • Work with other activity leaders and other staff to co-ordinate and combine sessions and groups

  • Enjoy yourself!

  • Points to note:

  • The essential element of all Camp Suisse sports programmes is to improve skills and confidence in each discipline; development and learning is essential. Sports and activities are delivered in a safe, controlled environment in a manner which is great fun for participants of all ages and which fosters real enthusiasm for the exercise.

  • Most residential Activity Leaders fulfil a combination role (unless you specialise in mountain leading or mountain biking):

  • Positions exist for non-residential Activity Leaders for those who live in the local area and can arrange transport.

  • Personal requirements / characteristics:
    Camp Suisse Activity Leaders are talented and adaptable individuals with a genuine passion for their sports or activities. You must be mature, punctual, professional and responsible with a real enthusiasm for the outdoors and for educating and teaching kids and young people. All sessions are to be structured, planned and progressive to suit the needs of each group of individuals. First Aid training and relevant qualifications in your chosen discipline(s) are required.

    Job description - Camp Suisse "Kitchen Staff"

    Ages: 16+

    Key Duties:

  • Work closely with our friendly chef to prepare meals

  • Serve meals (‘buffet-style’ breakfast, picnic or packed lunch, table by table service dinner)

  • Be responsible for general tidiness and cleanliness of centre and kitchen

  • Enjoy yourself!

  • Points to note:

  • You should take time off in your free hours and join the group on activities if you wish. You are actively encouraged to get involved with the campers and the staff who work directly with them. You are by no means ‘tucked away’ in the kitchen.

  • This role presents you with an excellent introduction to Camp life and the team environment for a first time staff member.

  • Personal requirements / characteristics:
    We require hardworking, reliable individuals who thrive in a team environment. You must have an interest in food and food service, good attention to detail, a very pleasant demeanour and a big smile. It is helpful if you have knowledge of basic food hygiene issues and some kitchen experience.

    Job description - Camp Suisse "Camp Assistant"

    Ages: 17+

    Key Duties:

  • Work with all other teams to co-ordinate and connect operations

  • Run essential elements of the Camp; e.g. tuck shop

  • Help with logistics; eg delivering drinks / lunches to Campers in activity sessions

  • Run some evening activities and special events - theme nights, birthdays etc

  • Cover days off - take on the role of group leader whilst a group leader has their day off

  • Assist in general with any element of Camp life (may include kitchen work)

  • Enjoy yourself!

  • Points to note:

  • This is a varied and interesting role which will give you a great overview of all elements of camp operations. You will have the opportunity to participate in activities with the groups. You are actively encouraged to get involved with the Campers and those staff who work directly with them.

  • This role presents you with an excellent introduction to Camp life and the team environment for a first time staff member.

  • Personal requirements / characteristics:
    We are looking for good ‘all-rounders’, i.e. flexible, adaptable, capable individuals who are forward-thinking, self-motivated and have good planning and organisational skills.

    Job description - Camp Suisse "Camp Nurse"

    Ages: 19+

    Key Duties:

  • Control and manage all medications held at camp

  • Monitor and manage first aid supplies

  • Administer medication as required

  • Attend to any illnesses or sicknesses in-house

  • Enjoy yourself!

  • Points to note:

  • You will be responsible for managing any medication belonging to Campers and administer it as required, including briefing group leaders and other contact staff on Campers’ medical requirements where appropriate.

  • You will be available to attend to any accidents /illnesses in resort.

  • Personal requirements / characteristics:
    The Camp Nurse is usually a qualified nurse, or in the process of studying nursing. Other relevant medical training (paramedic etc) is also acceptable. You should be friendly and approachable as well as responsible, professional and organised.

    Job description - Camp Suisse "Chef"

    Ages: 19+

    Key Duties:

  • Manage the Camp Suisse kitchen and team of staff

  • Monitor and manage food supplies and stores

  • Work, shop and cook to a given budget

  • Prepare dinner each evening for around 120 people

  • Organise and oversee the preparation of picnic/packed lunches as required

  • Enjoy yourself!

  • Points to note:

  • The most important skill is the ability to run the kitchen at service times in an organised and efficient manner.

  • Food is simple and should be easy to prepare. There is a choice (made in the morning) of two starters and two main meals and most meals are ‘table service’.

  • Personal requirements / characteristics:
    Camp Suisse is looking for a friendly, well-motivated individual who is passionate about cooking. You must be a good team player and be able to work with a range of individuals. A good knowledge of HACCP and food hygiene is essential, as is experience in the food service industry and of running events and managing a team.

    Job description - Camp Suisse "Photographer"

    Ages: 19+

    Key Duties:

  • Create a comprehensive library of great imagery for the new Camp Suisse brochure and all future communications / projects

  • Enjoy yourself!

  • Points to note:

  • The required photography consists of well colour-composed, strong, sharp and interesting photography with a big emphasis on quality (not holiday snaps of kids at camp).

  • Photography of all the different activities should be emotive as well as documentary.

  • You must be able to capture the essence of Camp through imagery in a non-evasive manner.

  • It is essential that you can blend in with the group and interact well with Campers and staff.

  • Personal requirements / characteristics:
    Camp Suisse is looking for a talented photographer who is a real team player. You should be flexible, adaptable and artistic. It is essential that you are able to build great rapport with children and adults alike. You will be invited to use your artistic license to achieve the aim above. It is helpful if you own at least some of the necessary equipment.

    Job description - Camp Suisse "Language Teacher"

    Ages: 18+

    Languages: English as a second language, Spanish, French, German, Italian

    Key Duties:

  • Deliver Camp Suisse’s foreign language study programmes to Campers

  • Plan and design a course of classes, (guided by the available Camp Suisse language programmes) which are lively, interactive, varied and fun

  • Instil in your youngsters a passion for furthering their knowledge in the chosen language

  • Enjoy yourself!

  • Points to note:

  • Whilst our language programs are structured and set, it is essential that you can personalise your classes and make your classroom time unique to you. (Materials, books, games provided).

  • It is essential that Campers make real, measurable progress from their course, particularly in areas of confidence in practical usage.

  • Language Teachers must be university graduates teaching their native language but there are some classroom assistant positions available for those who do not meet these criteria.

    Ages: 16+

  • Keep our centre neat, tidy and organised

  • Assist the Chalet Staff with general cleaning duties

  • You will be actively encouraged to get involved with Campers and to participate in activities in your free time. You will have the opportunity to assist with other duties including evening entertainments if you wish.

  • Personal requirements / characteristics:
    Camp Suisse is looking for lively, pleasant individuals to be responsible for the general standard of cleanliness throughout our facilities. You should be amiable, flexible and a team player.
